Environmental Responsibility

The Subsidiaries of Jacaranda Development Ltd. work towards full sustainability in their commercial productions at the farms.

When the farms were acquired, some of the soils were quite starved of necessary nutrients. Building up a healthy soil can be done only over time and most farms have by 2022 reduced the need of using inorganic fertilizer and pesticides by approximately 50% through soil improvement programs using animal manure and compost from their own productions.

The laboratory established at Fazenda Rio Monapo produces Efficient Microorganisms and Trichoderma to create better compost, and for direct application in the fields. These are also used by the other farms of the Group.

The lab staff work constantly to keep the Panama TR4 in check and are propagating plants with the best productivity and resistance.

Tree planting programs take place at all farms to improve biodiversity, provide shade and prevent soil erosion.

Management at the farms is encouraged to teach sustainable agricultural methods to their employees and neighbors.
